Tutorial 3 - Data Collection
Changing the Survey post Live
Sometimes its necessary to republish the survey, in fact for most surveys, republishing 10 to 20 times is common.
For example:
The most common reason is during development. A survey is created and shared with colleagues, suggestions come back and are incorporated and the survey is republished.
Or after a few test versions and simulations, a decision is made to finally collect 'real' data. So a final publish is made and the data is cleared, ready for fresh live data
Or sometimes a mistake is noted during fieldwork. Rather than restarting the whole process, the minor changes are made and the corrections published, (retaining the existing data !)
All of these are handled by versioning the survey each time it is published.
SurveyEngine ensures that:
Anyone in progress during a publish will continue on the version they started on
Any new respondents after the publish get the most recent version
Data from all versions is merged for download such that the unified data takes the fields from the most recent version
no data is actually lost when a 'clear current data' option is selected
Through the 'History' tab, 'cleared versions may be re-activated
